Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This is a 1976 ministerial declaration that gives special recognition to a retirement savings plan for professors at the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

What it does:

Declares the University of New South Wales Professorial Superannuation Scheme as an eligible scheme under the Commonwealth Superannuation Act 1976. This allows professors moving from Commonwealth public service jobs to UNSW to transfer their government superannuation benefits into the university's scheme.
Also declares it as an approved scheme, which establishes rules for how benefits move between the university scheme and the Commonwealth scheme when people change jobs.
Backdates the effect of this declaration to 1 July 1976, even though it was signed on 5 December 1976.

Who it affects:

Academic staff at UNSW who were transitioning from (or to) Commonwealth public service employment, ensuring they could maintain continuous retirement savings coverage without losing benefits.
