Plain English Summary

What this does

These regulations set the specific rate for a levy (a mandatory fee) on sugar cane production. Under the Sugar Cane Levy Act 1987, anyone who grows or deals with sugar cane must pay this levy. These regulations fix the amount at $0.06 per tonne of sugar cane.

Who it affects

Sugar cane growers and producers liable under the 1987 Act
Sugar industry organisations involved in collecting or administering the levy

Why it matters

This rate determines how much money the industry contributes to government or industry programs (such as research, development, or marketing activities). The $0.06 per tonne rate represents the outcome of consultations between the Minister and sugar industry organisations, balancing industry capacity against funding needs.
