Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Act provides government cash payments (bounties) to Australian farmers who grew and delivered sugar cane or sugar beet during specific periods in 1913.

Who it affects:

Sugar cane growers: Who delivered cane for manufacturing between 1 May and 26 July 1913
Sugar beet growers: Who delivered beet for manufacturing between 1 January and 26 July 1913

Payment rates:

Cane: 2 shillings and 2 pence per ton
Beet: 2 shillings per ton

Important conditions: To receive the money, growers must comply with the regulations from the previous Sugar Bounty Act 1905-1912. If the Minister believes you wouldn't have qualified under those old rules, you cannot claim this bounty.

Funding: The payments come from the Consolidated Revenue Fund (Australia's national treasury).

In simple terms, this is a temporary 1913 subsidy to support the local sugar industry by directly paying farmers based on how much they produced.
