Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Proclamation is the legal “on” switch for changes to Australia’s monarchy rules: it sets 26 March 2015 (UK time) as the commencement date for key parts of the Succession to the Crown Act 2015 so Australia mirrors the UK.

It removes male-preference succession and the ban on marrying a Catholic, affecting the Royal Family and anyone with succession rights whose claim depended on gender or marriage to a Catholic.
