Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This notice officially ends the collection of a specific industry charge on shipping operations.

What it does

Declares that May 2006 is the final month for collecting the stevedoring levy (a fee charged to companies that load and unload ships, known as stevedoring).

Background Under the Stevedoring Levy (Collection) Act 1998, the government collected a levy from stevedoring companies. This notice, issued by the Minister for Transport and Regional Services under that Act, triggers the end of the collection regime.

Who it affects Primarily affects stevedoring companies (businesses handling cargo at Australian ports) by signaling that the levy ceases after May 2006.

Why it matters This provides legal certainty about when the statutory charging scheme concludes, effectively sunsetting the levy and removing the financial obligation from industry participants.
