Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this law does:

This Act sets up a system for the federal government to give money ("grants") to Australian states to help returning soldiers settle on land after World War II — a program known as "war service land settlement."

Key points:

The Minister decides the details: The Minister determines how much money each state receives and what conditions apply to that funding.
Covers multiple funding sources: It applies to money appropriated by the 1951 Loan Act and any future legislation that sets aside funds for this purpose.
No backdating: It doesn't affect any money already paid to states before this Act started.

Why it matters: This was part of Australia's post-WWII effort to help veterans ("ex-servicemen") become farmers or landholders by providing states with federal funds to acquire and develop land for soldier settlement schemes.
