Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This law authorises the Australian Government to pay £15 million to the six Australian States as a one-off financial assistance grant for the financial year that started on 1 July 1950.

Where the money comes from: The Consolidated Revenue Fund (the government's main bank account, fed by taxes and revenue).

How the money is split:

New South Wales: £6,250,000
Victoria: £4,750,000
Queensland: £2,000,000
South Australia: £800,000
Western Australia: £1,000,000
Tasmania: £200,000

What it does: The law automatically appropriates (sets aside) this money, meaning the payments can be made immediately without needing any further parliamentary votes. This is a "special" grant, distinct from regular ongoing funding arrangements between the Commonwealth and the States.
