Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act provides one-off cash grants to three Australian States for the 1961-62 financial year.

Who gets what:

Victoria: £1,024,000
Western Australia: £339,000
Tasmania: £97,000

Total: £1,460,000 (paid from the federal government's Consolidated Revenue Fund).

Secondary adjustment: The Act also fixes a technical calculation for Victoria's grant in the next financial year (1962-63). When working out Victoria's 1962-63 grant under the States Grants Act 1959, the previous year's grant is deemed to be £72,730,000 (instead of the actual amount paid). This ensures the formula in the earlier Act produces the correct baseline for Victoria's future payments.
