What this law does

This Act gives federal money to three Australian states—South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania—to help them fund public services during the 1951-52 financial year.

The money

Total: £10,522,000 (ten and a half million pounds)
South Australia: £4,558,000
Western Australia: £5,088,000
Tasmania: £876,000

Where it comes from The cash is paid from the Consolidated Revenue Fund—the Commonwealth government’s main bank account, fed by taxes and national revenue.

Why it matters This is part of Australia’s system of horizontal fiscal equalisation (sharing the wealth). Smaller states with smaller tax bases receive top-up grants from Canberra so they can provide similar standards of hospitals, schools, and roads to their bigger neighbours (like New South Wales and Victoria) without overburdening local taxpayers.
