Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act authorises the Commonwealth Government to pay £2,050,000 (in pre-decimal currency) to three states—South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania—as financial assistance for the 1940-41 financial year.

Who gets what:

South Australia: £1,000,000
Western Australia: £650,000
Tasmania: £400,000

How it works: The money is paid in equal monthly instalments throughout the year from the Consolidated Revenue Fund (the Commonwealth's main bank account for tax revenue). These are unconditional grants, meaning the states can spend the money according to their own priorities rather than on specific projects dictated by the federal government.
