What this Act does

This legislation authorises a one-off payment of £1,027,000 (just over one million pounds) from the federal government to the State of South Australia.

Key details

Who gets the money: South Australia
How much: £1,027,000
When: For the financial year that started on 1 July 1959 (even though the Act itself was passed in 1960)
What it's for: General financial assistance—helping the state pay for services and infrastructure
Where the money comes from: The Consolidated Revenue Fund (the Commonwealth government's main bank account, which holds tax revenue)

Context

This payment was additional to other funding South Australia already received under a similar 1959 Act. Essentially, the federal government decided South Australia needed extra financial help for that particular year, and this Act makes that money legally available to be paid.
