act

Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

Mechanically, this Act fixes Northern Territory standard time at UTC+9:30 and requires that time references in laws, contracts and other legal documents be measured by that standard time unless the document specifies otherwise. It defines "Co‑ordinated Universal Time" by reference to the national measurement law and repeals the earlier 1898 South Australian time provision as it applied in the Territory.

Who is affected: anyone relying on legal deadlines, contracts or statutory time limits in the Territory, because the Act determines how those moments are measured.
