Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a very short regulation that sets a $20 million dollar limit on contracts that the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) can enter into without ministerial approval.

What it means:

SBS (Australia's multicultural public broadcaster) can approve contracts worth up to $20 million using its own authority
Any contract worth more than $20 million requires approval from the Minister for Communications
This affects how SBS manages procurement, programming acquisitions, and commercial deals

Who it affects:

The Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) and its Board
Businesses and suppliers contracting with SBS
The Minister for Communications (who must approve larger contracts)

This financial threshold balances operational independence for the broadcaster with appropriate oversight for major taxpayer-funded commitments.
