Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a formal proclamation — an official Government notice that "switches on" part of a law.

What it does:

Fixes 1 December 2002 as the date when Schedule 1 of the Space Activities Amendment Act 2002 comes into force (becomes legally active).

Why this matters:

Laws are often passed by Parliament but left inactive until the Government is ready. This proclamation formally triggers the new space activity rules.
Anyone operating in the Australian space sector (satellite operators, launch providers) needed to comply with the amended rules from this date onwards.

Key details:

Signed by Governor-General Peter Hollingworth on 27 November 2002
Issued under subsection 2(1) of the Act (the standard "commencement" clause found in most legislation)
Gives only four days' notice before the changes take effect
