Commonwealth legislation
This Act has been repealed and is no longer in force. It is retained for historical reference.
This instrument prescribes how southern bluefin tuna must be weighed when moved from tow cages to sea farms, applying to commercial fishers, aquaculture operators, the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) and its agents.
It requires an auditable method—sampling large fish to get an average weight, video-recording the transfer so every fish is visible, and a joint tally by farm and AFMA—so total weight is calculated reliably. The rules protect quota integrity and support sustainable, transparent management of the fishery.
