Commonwealth legislation
This Act has been repealed and is no longer in force. It is retained for historical reference.
This law prescribes how southern bluefin tuna must be weighed during transfers from tow cages to farm pens, affecting commercial fishers, tuna farmers and AFMA inspectors. It requires sampling, side‑angle video of transfers reviewed by farm and AFMA personnel, and calculation of total weight from the sample average and fish count. The aim is accurate stock measurement for quota enforcement and to prevent transfer/harvest disputes.
