Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it does: This Act gives South Australia £1 million (one million pounds) in federal financial assistance.

How it works:

The money is paid in equal monthly instalments throughout the 1932–33 financial year (starting 1 July 1932)
The funds come from the Commonwealth's main bank account, the Consolidated Revenue Fund
The Act simply authorises the government to make these payments

Why it matters: This was passed during the Great Depression, when state governments struggled with falling revenues and rising unemployment costs. Similar "grant" Acts were common during this era, allowing the federal government to bail out or support states facing severe budget shortfalls. It represents an early form of federal-state financial assistance before the modern system of GST distributions and specific purpose payments.
