Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act provides financial assistance from the Commonwealth Government to the State of South Australia during the Great Depression.

Key details:

Amount: £680,000 (in addition to money already provided under the 1929 Act)
Timing: For the financial year starting 1 July 1931
Payment method: Equal monthly instalments
Source: Paid from the Consolidated Revenue Fund (the Commonwealth's main bank account)

What it does: The legislation simply authorises the federal government to pay this grant to South Australia. It does not impose conditions on how South Australia must spend the money, nor does it require repayment. This was part of broader efforts during the 1930s Depression to support state governments facing severe financial hardship.
