Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act authorises the Commonwealth Government to cut South Australia a cheque—three years running—during the lean early years of the Great Depression.

The Deal:

£360,000 for the year 1929-30
£320,000 for 1930-31
£320,000 for 1931-32

The Mechanics:

The cash comes straight out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund (the Commonwealth’s main piggy bank)
Paid in equal monthly instalments—no lump sum, just steady drip-feed
No strings attached in the Act itself; it’s a straight grant

Who cares:

South Australia gets the dough to keep its budget afloat
Federal Treasury gets the legal authority to transfer the funds

Why it matters: This is a rare beast—a "money bill" that does exactly one thing and then vanishes. It’s an early example of federal fiscal relief to a struggling state, decades before the modern Grants Commission system formalised these transfers.
