Commonwealth legislation
This determination treats the one-off Taxi Reform Transitional Assistance Payment as an "exempt lump sum" for Commonwealth social security means tests, so the payment is ignored when assessing income and assets and does not reduce means-tested benefits (s5). The payment is $20,000 per taxi licence (capped at $40,000 for holders of more than one licence) and is paid by Transport for NSW (s4). The instrument is made under paragraph 8(11)(d) of the Social Security Act (s3).
