Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This law adds toys to the “priority needs” list under Australia’s income management scheme, letting parents and carers on income management (mainly in NT and trial sites) use quarantined funds or BasicsCard to buy toys. Purchases must meet educational or developmental criteria—e.g., support physical, cognitive, social or creative learning—recognising play as essential for child development.
