Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Determination brings Western Australia into the national child protection income management scheme, letting WA child protection authorities refer families to Centrelink when children are at risk. A portion of a referred family's welfare payments can be quarantined on a BasicsCard or similar, usable only for essentials (food, housing, clothing, medical care). It affects families subject to child protection interventions and the social security recipients in those households, creating a Commonwealth–State mechanism to prioritize children's basic needs.
