What this does

This instrument scraps (repeals) older regulations that were created to convert the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (SMEC) from a government-owned business into a public company.

Why it matters

SMEC was privatized (sold by the government) and the conversion process is now complete. These old rules are redundant, so this is essentially a housekeeping measure to clean up legislation that has served its purpose.

Who is affected

This is primarily administrative. It removes regulatory requirements that applied during the company's ownership transition but are no longer needed now that SMEC operates as a fully private entity.
