Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: These regulations set the work-related expense allowances for the Sex Discrimination Commissioner.

The bottom line: The Commissioner receives the same allowances as Australian Public Service (APS) officers. Rather than listing specific dollar amounts, the regulation simply adopts whatever allowances are currently payable to APS staff.

Who it affects:

The Sex Discrimination Commissioner — the independent office holder responsible for investigating discrimination complaints and promoting gender equality under the Sex Discrimination Act 1984.

Why it matters: This ensures the Commissioner can claim reimbursement for expenses (such as travel or accommodation) at standard public service rates, without Parliament needing to update the regulations every time allowance rates change.
