Plain English Summary

What it does

This regulation names the Australian Capital Territory Electricity and Water Authority as a "prescribed body" under section 12ba of the Seat of Government (Administration) Act 1910. This brings the utility provider under the specific legal rules, powers or requirements contained in that section.

Who it affects

The Australian Capital Territory Electricity and Water Authority (the public utility that supplied electricity and water to Canberra and the surrounding region)
Residents and businesses in the ACT who use these services, indirectly

Why it matters

This is a technical administrative instrument that ensures the electricity and water authority operates under the correct Commonwealth legislative framework. Being a "prescribed body" typically confers specific legal capacities—such as the power to enter contracts, hold property, or sue and be sued—ensuring the utility can function effectively as a legal entity.
