Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This proclamation is the formal 'on switch' for the Screen Australia Act 2008. It declares that sections 3 to 45 of the Act commence on 1 July 2008.

What this means:

Before this date, those sections were inactive (they had no legal force)
From 1 July 2008 onwards, the provisions establishing Screen Australia as Australia's national screen funding agency became operational
This includes the agency's powers to fund film, television, and digital media projects, its governance structure, and administrative functions

Who it affects:

Screen Australia (the agency itself)
Australian screen producers applying for government funding
Anyone interacting with the agency's legislative framework

This document performs a purely mechanical but essential legal function: without such a proclamation, parliamentary laws often cannot take practical effect.
