Commonwealth act
This Act provides a workers' compensation scheme specifically for current and former members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) — Army, Navy, and Air Force — who were injured or became ill because of their military service.
This law applies to Defence Force members whose injuries or illnesses are connected to military service that occurred between 1 December 1988 and 30 June 2004. If your service was after 1 July 2004, a different law (the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004, or MRCA) generally applies instead. If your service was before 1 December 1988, yet another set of older laws may apply.
In short: this Act fills a specific historical gap for Defence service from late 1988 to mid-2004.

If you served in the ADF between 1988 and 2004 and were injured or became ill because of that service, this is the primary law that determines whether the government must compensate you and how much. Getting the time period right is critical — a claim under the wrong law may be refused.
