Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This notice brings ACTTAB Limited — the company that operated betting agencies (TABs) in the Australian Capital Territory — under the federal Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (the SRC Act).

What this means:

Employees of ACTTAB became covered by Comcare, the Commonwealth's workers' compensation scheme, instead of the ACT's state-based system
If workers were injured on the job, their medical expenses, lost wages and rehabilitation would be managed under federal law rather than territory law
The company became subject to Commonwealth workplace safety and rehabilitation obligations

Why this matters: Workers' compensation determines who pays for medical treatment and lost income after workplace injuries. This declaration shifted ACTTAB employees into the national Comcare system, changing which government agency handled their claims and what legal rights they had if injured at work.
