Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is: A formal "start button" for part of a law. This proclamation (an official order signed by the Governor-General) activates Schedule 1 of the Road Transport Reform (Dangerous Goods) Repeal Act 2009.

What it does:

Sets the date: The repeal takes effect on 5 April 2010.
Legal effect: On that date, the old dangerous goods transport laws targeted by the 2009 Act officially stop being law.
Who made it: Governor-General Quentin Bryce, acting on advice from the Federal Executive Council (senior ministers), as authorised by the parent Act.

Why this matters: Laws often pass Parliament but don't start immediately. This document fixes the exact day the repeal happens, ensuring businesses and regulators know when the old rules cease to apply.
