15 Identification of offenders

(1)  [Section 15 Subsection (1) amended by No. 38 of 2017, s. 30, Applied:03 Dec 2018] A police officer may require a person to whom a request has been made, or a direction has been given, under Division 2 or whom that officer has reasonable grounds for believing has committed an offence under this Act to state his name, date of birth and the address of his place of abode.

(2)  A person who –

(a) refuses or fails to comply with a requirement made by a police officer under this section; or

(b) in response to any such requirement, furnishes that officer with information that is false –

is guilty of an offence.

(3)  [Section 15 Subsection (3) inserted by No. 68 of 1997, s. 9, Applied:01 Mar 1998] A police officer may arrest without warrant a person who, in response to the requirement of the police officer made under subsection (1)  –

(a) [Section 15 Subsection (3) amended by No. 38 of 2017, s. 30, Applied:03 Dec 2018] refuses or fails to state his or her name, date of birth or the address of his or her place of abode; or

(b) [Section 15 Subsection (3) amended by No. 38 of 2017, s. 30, Applied:03 Dec 2018] states a name, date of birth or an address of a place of abode that the police officer reasonably believes to be false.
