#### 5 Australian Electoral Officer for the Australian Capital Territory (1) The Electoral Commission must, for the purposes of each referendum, appoint an Australian Electoral Officer for the Australian Capital Territory and such an appointment terminates upon the completion of the referendum. (2) The Electoral Commission may appoint a person to act as Australian Electoral Officer for the Australian Capital Territory during any period, or during all periods, when the Australian Electoral Officer for the Australian Capital Territory is absent from duty or from Australia or is, for any other reason, unable to perform the functions of the office. > Note: For rules that apply to acting appointments, see section 33A of the Acts Interpretation Act 1901.
