Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This determination sets a technical rule for what counts as a domestic digital television receiver under the Radiocommunications Act 1992.

What it does: It specifies that to fall under this legal category, TV reception equipment must be designed to run on mains electricity (plugged into the power grid) and must not have a battery that allows it to work without being plugged in.

Why it matters: This creates a regulatory distinction between fixed home television sets and portable, battery-powered devices. This classification determines which technical standards and regulatory requirements apply to different types of digital TV equipment.
