Ditches the 2001 caps: Revokes the previous direction that limited how many datacasting transmitter licences one company could hold.
Tells ACMA to bin the allocation rules: Directs the Australian Communications and Media Authority (the media regulator) to scrap the 2001 determination that set out how those licences were divvied up.

Why it matters: This removes the straitjacket on datacasting transmitter licence ownership from 2001, giving the regulator a clean slate to issue fresh licences without being tied to the old restrictive framework.

I, HELEN LLOYD COONAN, Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, acting under subsection 106(9) of the Radiocommunications Act 1992, hereby:

(a) revoke the Radiocommunications (Datacasting Transmitter Licence Limits) Direction No. 1 of 2001; and

(b) direct the Australian Communications and Media Authority to revoke the Radiocommunications (Datacasting Transmitter Licence Allocation) Determination 2001.
