Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it does This law authorises the Commonwealth government to give Queensland a specific grant of money as financial assistance.

The money

Main payment: $21.7 million for the financial year that started on 1 July 1978.
Extra payment: Up to $10.85 million can be paid in the first 6 months of 1979–80 (July to December 1979).
Where from: The money comes from the Consolidated Revenue Fund (the federal government’s main bank account, which holds all tax revenue).

Important conditions

The $21.7 million amount is reduced by anything Queensland already received under the Queensland Grant (Special Assistance) Act 1977 — this prevents double-dipping.
The federal Treasurer decides exactly when and in what chunks the money is paid out.

Who it affects Primarily the Queensland State Government, which receives the funds, and the federal Treasury, which manages the payments.
