Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Act increases the Commonwealth's financial contribution to irrigation works in Bundaberg, Queensland, and tightens oversight of how that money is spent.

Key changes:

More funding: Raises the federal grant from $12.8 million to $17.2 million.
Stricter contract oversight: Requires ministerial approval for large contracts entered into by Queensland. The threshold depends on when the contract was signed:
- Contracts signed before this Act started: Approval needed if worth more than $500,000
- Contracts signed on or after this Act started: Approval needed if worth more than $200,000

This lowers the financial threshold for ministerial scrutiny of new contracts, giving the Commonwealth greater control over major project expenditures as construction progresses.
