Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is This is a formal legal notice (a "proclamation") made by the Governor-General that sets the exact date when specific changes to the Qantas Sale Act take effect.

What it does It fixes 25 August 2014 as the day that Schedule 1 of the Qantas Sale Amendment Act 2014 begins operation. Until this date, the amendments existed on paper but were not yet law; after this date, they became active and enforceable.

Why this matters The Qantas Sale Act controls how Qantas Airways can be owned and structured (including foreign ownership limits and sale restrictions). This proclamation acts as the legal trigger that activates the amendments. Without this document, the changes made by Parliament would remain dormant.
