54 Abandonment of employment (1) The Chief Executive Officer of an Agency may terminate the employment of an employee in the Agency if the employee is absent from duty without permission for at least 10 consecutive working days. (2) The Chief Executive Officer must not take action under subsection (1) unless satisfied that: (a) the employee: the action should not be taken; or (b) all reasonable steps have been taken to give notice as mentioned in paragraph (a) but without success. Public Sector Employment and Management Act 1993 45 working day, for an employee, means a day on which the employee is, in accordance with his or her conditions of employment, required to be at work.
