What this does: This notice updates the payment rates under Australia's Public Lending Right (PLR) scheme.

The changes:

Increases one payment rate from $2.00 to $2.02 (subsection 14(2))
Increases another payment rate from 50 cents to 50.5 cents (subsection 15(2))

What is the PLR scheme? It's a program that pays Australian authors, illustrators, and publishers when their books are held in public libraries. Think of it as compensation for the free lending of their work to the public.

Why it matters: These small increases (around 1%) are routine indexation adjustments to keep payments in line with inflation. If you receive PLR payments for books you've created, your payments will be slightly larger once this takes effect.

I, George Brandis QC, Attorney–General, Minister for the Arts, issue the following Notice under paragraph 5(1)(b) of the Public Lending Right Act 1985.

1. Modification

1.1 The Public Lending Right Scheme 1997 is modified as set out in this Notice.

2. Subsection 14(2)

2.1 Omit “$2.00”, substitute “$2.02”.

3. Subsection 15(2)

3.1 Omit “50 cents”, substitute “50.5 cents”.

This instrument takes effect on the day following the day of its registration in the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments.
