30 Secretary may appoint authorised officers S. 30(1) amended by No. 53/2021 s. 10. (1) The Secretary by instrument may appoint a person employed under Part 3 of the **Public Administration Act 2004**, or an employee of a health service to be an authorised officer for the purposes of this Act. (2) The Secretary must not appoint a person to be an authorised officer under this section unless the Secretary is satisfied that the person is suitably qualified or trained to be an authorised officer for the purposes of this Act. (3) An appointment of a person to be an authorised officer may— (a) specify the functions, duties or powers under this Act or the regulations to which it relates; and (b) be made subject to any conditions that the Secretary considers to be appropriate. (4) The Secretary must issue an identity card to each authorised officer appointed by the Secretary. (5) An identity card issued to an authorised officer under this section must— (a) contain a photograph of the authorised officer; and (b) contain the signature of the authorised officer; and (c) be signed by the Secretary. (6) The Secretary may give a direction to an authorised officer appointed by the Secretary in relation to the performance of the authorised officer's functions or duties or the exercise of the authorised officer's powers under this Act or the regulations. (7) A direction given under subsection (6) may— (a) be of a general nature; or (b) specify that the direction relates to a specific matter or specified class of matter.
