This proclamation fixes 24 September 2008 as the day the Taxi and Luxury Hire Car Industries Act 2008 comes into force. Mechanically, it brings every provision of that Act into operation on that date.

It affects Tasmanian taxi and luxury hire‑car operators, regulators and consumers by triggering the Act’s regulatory and compliance requirements. The Administrator, acting with Executive Council advice, made the decision; the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources administers it. Costs fall to industry and regulators to implement and comply once the Act commences.
