Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This proclamation, made by the Governor with Executive Council advice under section 2(2) of the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1999, sets 1 November 2000 as the day most of that Act begins to operate, while excluding sections 1, 2 and 62 from commencement. It matters to people and organisations in Tasmania who will be subject to the Act from that date because it converts the Act’s provisions into enforceable law and places administration responsibility with the Department of Justice and Industrial Relations.
