Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act is a straightforward budget measure from 1937. It takes £1 million from government revenue (the Consolidated Revenue Fund) and puts it into a special savings account called the Post Office Works Trust Account.

The money can only be spent on five specific things:

Telephone exchanges (switchboards and infrastructure)
Trunk lines (long-distance phone cables)
Telegraph services and other communications equipment
National broadcasting (radio services)
Buildings and land for the Postmaster-General's Department

In simple terms: Parliament approved a million-pound infrastructure budget to expand Australia's phone, telegraph, and radio networks during the 1930s.
