Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

These Regulations identify which Commonwealth, state and territory statutes are to be treated as “corresponding laws” for the Police (Special Investigative and Other Powers) Act by listing them in a Schedule. The list maps external statutes with similar subject-matter (for example, controlled operations, assumed identities and witness identity protection) to the Act.

Police, investigators and legal advisors use this list to decide when provisions in other jurisdictions are to be treated as equivalent to the NT Act. The Regulations themselves do not create new powers; they only declare cross‑jurisdictional correspondence.
