> > (1) A person must not unlawfully tamper or interfere with a motor vehicle or trailer.
> >
> > Penalty: Fine not exceeding 20 penalty units.

> > (2) If a police officer has reasonable grounds to believe that a person is contravening or has contravened [subsection (1)](#GS37I@Gs1@EN) , the police officer may, without warrant and using such force, means and assistance as is reasonably necessary –

> > > > (a) detain and search that person; and

> > > > (b) seize any tools, equipment or materials found on that person that the police officer believes may have been used in the commission of the offence.
