19 Aboriginal Community Police officers, Police auxiliaries and Police Public Safety officers (1) The Commissioner may, in writing, appoint a person who is eligible for appointment to the Police Force to be a member of the Police Force as: (a) an Aboriginal Community Police officer; or (b) a Police auxiliary; or (c) a Police Public Safety officer.

Police Administration Act 1978 20 (3) Subject to the terms and conditions specified in the person's instrument of appointment, a person appointed under subsection (1) has the same powers, privileges, duties and obligations as other members of the Police Force.
