A public safety order made by a court takes effect— when the order is made, if the respondent or a legal or other representative of the respondent is present at the hearing of the application; or if paragraph (a) does not apply—when a police officer serves the order on the respondent. Service under subsection (1) (b) must be by personal service or, if personal service is not practicable or the respondent is a group of persons, by public notice. The order served on the respondent must state that— the respondent may appeal to the District Court against the order; and the notice of appeal must be filed within 28 days after— the day on which the order was made; or for an order made in the absence of the respondent or a legal or other representative of the respondent—the day on which the order was served on the respondent. A public safety order remains in force until the earlier of the following— the day the order is revoked; the day stated in the order, which must not be more than 6 months after the order is made. However, if the public safety order is extended by the court, the order remains in force until the earlier of the following— the day the order is revoked; the day stated in the order for extension, which must not be more than 6 months after the day the order would have otherwise ended. s 29 ins 2016 No. 62 s 267 (sec.29-ssec.1) A public safety order made by a court takes effect— when the order is made, if the respondent or a legal or other representative of the respondent is present at the hearing of the application; or if paragraph (a) does not apply—when a police officer serves the order on the respondent.
