Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

These regulations are a housekeeping measure that shut down the old passport rules.

What it does:

Cancels (repeals) the Passports Regulations 1939 — the old rules that operated under the 1938 Passports Act
Timing: Takes effect automatically when the modern Australian Passports Act 2005 begins operating (specifically when sections 3 to 58 of that Act start)

Why it matters: This prevents confusion by ensuring the outdated 1939 rules disappear exactly when the new 2005 passport system begins. It’s a legal "switch-off" button for the old regime, making sure no overlapping or conflicting regulations remain in force.
