This proclamation fixes 15 February 2012 as the commencement date for the main parts (Schedules 1–3) of the Parliamentary Service Amendment (Parliamentary Budget Officer) Act 2011, bringing the Parliamentary Budget Officer into operation.

The independent, non‑partisan PBO will provide costings and budget analysis to all MPs and Senators, giving voters more transparent scrutiny of parties’ spending promises.

Parliamentary Service Amendment (Parliamentary Budget Officer) Act 2011

I, QUENTIN BRYCE, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council and under subsection 2 (1) of the Parliamentary Service Amendment (Parliamentary Budget Officer) Act 2011, fix 15 February 2012 as the day on which Schedules 1, 2 and 3 to that Act commence.
