Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does These regulations set the daily expense allowances for Parliamentary Secretaries — MPs who assist government ministers with their duties.

The payments

$61 per day: For days involving an overnight stay somewhere other than Canberra or the Secretary's home base (e.g., travelling to regional areas)
$56 per day: For all other working days

Who it affects Parliamentary Secretaries claiming reimbursements for work-related expenses under the Parliamentary Secretaries Act 1980.

Key detail The term "home base" is defined by reference to another document — Determination 7 of 1980 by the Remuneration Tribunal (the body that sets pay and conditions for public officials). This ensures the definition stays consistent with other parliamentary entitlements.
