Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

These regulations give the Parliament House Construction Authority the power to furnish and equip the new Parliament House in Canberra.

While the Authority was already responsible for designing and building Parliament House under the Parliament House Construction Authority Act 1979, these rules specifically add furniture, fittings, and equipment to its job description.

What this means:

Who: The government body overseeing the Parliament House project.
What: The Authority can now choose, purchase, and install everything from parliamentary chamber desks to kitchen equipment—not just construct the building shell.
Why: Keeping fit-out under the same management as construction prevents coordination problems between builders and interior designers.

In essence: three short rules ensuring the builders also handle the furniture.
